It has been almost impossible to choose a single highlight from Year 6’s study of Australia this term. The topic has opened up a world of striking landscapes, unique wildlife and fascinating human stories, and the children have thrown themselves into every aspect of their learning.

Over the weekend of 21–22 March, Year 4 pupil Sophie delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 WMAC English Championships, the official qualifying event for this year’s World Championships in Bregenz, Austria.

Year 11 pupil Francesca (“Chess”) has showcased exceptional culinary talent this term, progressing through both the local heats and the district final of the Rotary Club Young Chef Competition—a national initiative open to pupils aged 11–17.

This term, our Year 7 geographers delved into the fascinating topic of urbanisation, with a particular focus on the opportunities and challenges faced by people living in urban areas of low-income countries.

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Cath Sams, a much-loved former Vice-Principal, has passed away unexpectedly.

On Monday 23 March, Year 5 pupils enjoyed an exciting and immersive trip to Reading Museum, where they stepped back in time to experience life as a Victorian schoolchild.

As the Spring Term drew to a close, pupils in the Senior School at St Gabriel’s came together for a truly meaningful initiative in support of the West Berkshire Food Bank.
