Milly Climbs to New Heights With National Podium Success

We are delighted to share an exciting update on Year 8 pupil Milly’s climbing achievements, as she continues to make remarkable progress in both regional and national competitions.

Milly recently placed 5th overall in the Midlands Youth Climbing Series, which included three roped rounds and three bouldering rounds. This is an outstanding achievement, made even more impressive by the fact that she only competed in four of the six rounds.

Closer to home, Milly has also enjoyed success at her local climbing centre, Northway, where she has won several U16 events. Further afield, she secured 6th place at Blockfest in Bristol and another 6th place at the Southern Youth Bouldering Championship in Swindon, demonstrating her consistency across different formats and venues.

However, the highlight of Milly’s season so far came last weekend, when she achieved a fantastic 2nd place in the Welsh Lead Cup — her first-ever podium at a national event. After qualifying joint second, the final result came down to a single climb‑off. Both Milly and the eventual winner topped the route, meaning the judges turned to wall‑time as the tiebreaker. The winning climber was just three seconds faster (3:38 vs. Milly’s 3:45), making for an incredibly close and exciting finish.

Alongside her competition success, Milly continues to train at an elite level. Over Easter, she attended a two‑day England Squad training camp in Ratho, Edinburgh, and this coming weekend she will travel to Chatham for a dedicated bouldering camp, followed by a lead climbing event in Sheffield the very next day — a demanding schedule by any standard.

Adding to the excitement, Team GB/Adidas has now released the official England Climbing Squad kit, and Milly is eagerly awaiting the arrival of her squad t‑shirts and hoodie next month.

We are incredibly proud of Milly’s dedication, resilience and passion for her sport. Her achievements this year reflect not only her talent but also her determination to keep pushing herself to new heights.

Congratulations, Milly — a brilliant start to the season, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
