Year 10 & 11 Discover the Art of Chocolate Making

On Tuesday 11 November, our Year 10 and Year 11 Food and Nutrition pupils enjoyed a deliciously memorable trip to Chocolate Craft in Old Alresford, Hampshire.
The artisan chocolate company, known for creating handmade chocolates for prestigious clients such as Fortnum & Mason, welcomed our pupils for a hands-on workshop exploring the science and skill behind fine chocolate making.
Founded by owner Pippa, Chocolate Craft marks her journey from NHS Nursing Sister to chocolatier and entrepreneur. With this inspiring backdrop, the pupils learnt about the chocolate-making process from bean to bar. They discussed key ingredients, how to temper chocolate to achieve the perfect shine and snap, and the precision required to achieve consistent taste and texture on a large scale. Chocolate Craft produces up to 60,000 truffles a month, all made by hand—an impressive example of craftsmanship and teamwork in action.
Following the demonstration, the pupils put their learning into practice. Working with professional equipment and expert guidance, they created their own handmade truffles, experimenting with flavours and decoration, before moving on to make a selection of creative chocolate lollipops. The workshop was a wonderful blend of food science, creativity and skill—complete with taste-testing, of course.
This was an enriching and thoroughly enjoyable experience for all involved. The visit offered our pupils valuable insight into artisan food production and the potential career pathways within the culinary industry.
Learning never tasted so good.
