Year 7 Explore Royal History at Windsor Castle

On Thursday 2 October, Year 7 pupils set off for an inspiring day at Windsor Castle, immersing themselves in one of the most iconic landmarks in British history.
The visit was carefully designed to enrich their history studies, particularly their exploration of the Norman Conquest and the events that shaped England after 1066.
The day began with an interactive workshop, “1066: What Happened Next?” which transported pupils back to the turbulent aftermath of the Battle of Hastings. Through role play and discussion, they examined the power struggles faced by William the Conqueror and considered how his victory forever changed the course of the nation. The hands-on approach gave pupils the chance to step into history, helping them to see beyond the textbook and understand the real human challenges of the time.
Following the workshop, the pupils explored Windsor Castle itself — home to centuries of tradition and royal heritage. From the splendour of the State Apartments to the spiritual beauty display.
The trip offered more than just facts and dates — it was a chance for pupils to experience the scale, symbolism and living history of one of England’s greatest landmarks. They returned with a deeper understanding of how 1066 shaped the monarchy and left a legacy that can still be felt today.
It was a day that blended learning with unforgettable experiences — one that our Year 7 pupils are unlikely to forget!
