St Gabriel’s proudly hosted the official launch of our 2026 Greenpower cars on Tuesday 19 May, celebrating the creativity, teamwork and engineering skill of the 35 pupils from Years 7 to 11 who make up this year’s Greenpower team.
The event marked an exciting milestone as the pupils prepare for the upcoming racing season.
Over recent months, the teams have worked collaboratively to design, build and refine their electric race cars, developing hands‑on experience in engineering, problem‑solving and innovation. Their completed vehicles were proudly displayed in the School Library, where parents, staff and sponsors were invited to view the cars and speak with pupils about their design decisions and build process.
The evening continued in the Theatre, where pupils delivered confident and engaging presentations outlining their engineering journey so far, followed by a reception for families and sponsors. We are incredibly grateful for the support of our sponsors — Marsh Fuels, Fair Trade Clergy Shirts, Niox and FVB — whose generosity has helped bring this year’s cars to life.
Since the launch, the teams have been busy practising outside the front of school, putting their cars through early test runs and fine‑tuning performance ahead of their first race of the season. The pupils will compete at the Greenpower Goodwood heat on Sunday 24 May, before racing again at Dunsfold on 13 September.
The Greenpower programme continues to be a highlight of STEM at St Gabriel’s, inspiring pupils to explore engineering in a dynamic, collaborative and highly rewarding way. We look forward to cheering on the teams at Goodwood and Dunsfold later this year.
