Classics Pupils Visit Oxford to Explore Ancient Artefacts

On Friday 6 March, our GCSE and A Level Classicists enjoyed an inspiring trip to Oxford, bringing their classroom learning to life through the study of remarkable ancient artefacts at the world-famous Ashmolean Museum.
During the visit, pupils had the opportunity to see several important pieces they have been studying as part of their courses, including the famous Augustus of Prima Porta, striking sculptures from the Sanctuary of Olympia, and examples of Latin epigraphy. Seeing these artefacts up close gave pupils a valuable insight into the art, history and culture of the ancient world, and helped deepen their understanding of topics explored in their lessons.
The group also visited the Oxford Humanities Faculty for lunch, soaking up the atmosphere of one of the world’s most renowned academic environments. Before heading home, there was also time for a stop at the famous Blackwell’s Bookshop, where pupils browsed the shelves and picked up a few new additions for their reading lists.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable and enriching day, offering pupils a fantastic opportunity to connect their studies with the wider world of classical scholarship.
