A Galactic Journey: Year 7’s Play in a Day Performance
On Tuesday 4 November, our Year 7 pupils took part in one of the most anticipated highlights of the autumn term — ‘Play in a Day’, an immersive Drama and Dance project that challenges each class to create, rehearse and perform a complete production in just one day!
This year’s theme, space and time travel, transported audiences on a thrilling intergalactic adventure to rescue St Gabriel’s history after an asteroid strike sent the school’s past spiralling into a black hole. The students worked collaboratively to devise imaginative scenes, combining movement, dialogue, and music to bring their cosmic quest to life.
Throughout the day, pupils explored a wide range of theatrical techniques — from slow-motion spacewalks and freeze-frame tableaux to dynamic flashbacks that reimagined key moments in St Gabriel’s history. Their creativity, teamwork, and confidence shone through every scene, resulting in two engaging and entertaining final performances that captivated the audience.
It was an event filled with imagination and inspiration; perfectly showcasing the power of collaboration and creativity in the performing arts.
