Year 9 Textiles Pupils Create Colourful Hospital Gowns for Young Patients
We are delighted to share the heart-warming outcome of a creative community project led by Ms Hunter and last year’s Year 9 Textiles pupils.
The group have designed and made 22 beautifully bright hospital gowns for young patients aged 5–6 at North Hampshire Hospital — all crafted from repurposed duvet covers to ensure the project was environmentally friendly as well as meaningful.
This week, the hospital’s nursing team received the delivery and kindly sent us a photograph proudly holding up the finished gowns. The joyful patterns and cheerful colours are already bringing smiles to the ward.
The project was developed by our Director of Partnerships, Mrs Ruth Chaplin, who explained:
“We wanted to create something that would genuinely make a difference in the wider community. Children’s hospital care felt like a natural focus — hospital stays can be difficult for young people and their families, and our aim was to bring a little comfort and cheer during a challenging time. The pupils’ creativity and care have truly shone through in these gowns.”
The Year 9 pupils thoroughly enjoyed the challenge, combining their textile skills with thoughtful design to produce something both practical and uplifting. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to see how their learning can be applied to real-world situations and used to support others.
A huge thank you to Ms Hunter, Mrs Chaplin, and all the pupils involved — your work is now making a difference where it matters most.
