Year 6 Science Fair Showcases Curiosity, Creativity and Courage

On Tuesday 1 July, the annual Year 6 Science Fair took place in the school marquee, and despite soaring temperatures, our pupils rose to the occasion with enthusiasm, creativity and an impressive display of scientific curiosity.

Throughout the half-term, pupils worked independently on science projects of their own choosing, delving into topics that sparked their personal interests and imagination. The fair provided the perfect platform for them to showcase their findings, complete with hands-on demonstrations, eye-catching displays and confident explanations.

Parents were warmly invited to the fair and enjoyed a morning walk-through of the exhibits. This gave pupils a fantastic opportunity to talk through their poster designs and demonstrate their experiments — sparking some lively and enthusiastic discussions between pupils and their audience!

Projects ranged from explosive volcanoes and planetary investigations to microbiology and chemical reactions. Topics included:

  • Is Mould Good or Bad? – complete with fascinating (and slightly alarming!) real-life samples

  • What Happens When a Meteor Hits Earth?

  • How Was the Universe Created? – featuring an impressive pop-up planetarium

  • A project all about chickens and their behaviour

  • A look at How Different Chemicals Mix

  • And, of course, the ever-popular erupting volcano experiments!

Each project was a testament to the pupils’ curiosity, independence and hard work, and reflected a true passion for science. The event was expertly judged by Dr Kirstin Saynor, Head of Senior Science at St Gabriel’s, who praised the high standard of work and the confident way in which pupils presented their ideas.

The winners of this year’s Science Fair will be announced at Friday’s school assembly.

Congratulations to all our brilliant young scientists – your enthusiasm and dedication truly made this year’s fair one to remember.
