St Gabriel’s Pupils Take Part in Guinness World Record Attempt with Jamie Oliver

On Tuesday 1 July, pupils from Years 8, 9 and 10 at St Gabriel’s joined more than 700 schools across the UK in a record-breaking culinary challenge — a Guinness World Record attempt for the largest ever online cooking lesson, hosted by celebrity chef Jamie Oliver.

At exactly 11am, our Food Technology Room came alive as over 15 pupils, along with staff members Mrs Chapman and Mrs Knott, took part in the live-streamed event, joining an estimated 10,000 participants nationwide. The challenge? To cook fresh homemade pasta in a vibrant tomato sauce — from scratch, in just one hour.

To meet the official criteria for the record, all participants needed to be in the same room for the entire lesson, with a minimum group size of 15. Ingredients were kindly provided by Mrs Edwards, who also captured the event in photos for submission to the Guinness World Records team as part of the verification process.

The session not only tested pupils’ culinary skills but also brought a sense of fun, teamwork, and achievement. Laughter, concentration, and the delicious aroma of fresh pasta filled the room; the results were both impressive and tasty!

Well done to all involved for being part of this exciting national event. We now eagerly await confirmation from Guinness World Records to see if history has officially been made!
