St Gabriel's Pupils Bring Home World Championship Medals for Great Britain

Three talented young athletes from St Gabriel's School in Newbury have returned from the World Biathle, Triathle and Laser Run Championships in Madeira with an outstanding collection of medals, following a series of impressive performances representing Great Britain on the international stage.
Year 10 pupil Liam, his younger sister Sophie (Year 7) and Declan (Year 8) all competed against some of the world's leading young athletes, achieving individual and team success across the championships.
Liam enjoyed a particularly remarkable week, securing five gold medals and one silver, including two individual World Championship titles in the Under 15 Biathle and Triathle events.
Having already claimed the European Under 15 Biathle title earlier this year, Liam entered the championships among the favourites. He delivered a commanding performance in both his semi-final and final to secure the World Biathle title, also helping Great Britain to team gold.
He followed this with an equally impressive display in the Triathle, leading from the early stages and extending his advantage throughout the race to claim his second individual World Championship title and another team gold.
In his final event, the Laser Run, Liam battled through a highly competitive field to take individual silver, finishing just one second behind the winner. His performance also contributed to a third team gold for Great Britain.
Liam's younger sister Sophie also enjoyed success on the world stage, competing in the Under 13 Triathle. After qualifying for the final, Sophie produced a determined performance to finish 13th overall, helping the Great Britain team secure a bronze medal.
Fellow St Gabriel's pupil Declan also had an exceptional championship, returning home with seven World Championship medals: three gold, three silver and one bronze.
Declan claimed gold medals in the team Biathle, team Laser Run and Laser Run Mixed Relay, alongside a Great Britain teammate. He also secured individual silver medals in both the Biathle and Laser Run, a team silver in the Triathle and bronze in the Biathle Mixed Relay.
Adding to his impressive medal tally, Declan finished fourth in the individual Triathle and seventh in the Triathle Mixed Relay, demonstrating his versatility across all three disciplines.
The championships brought together talented young athletes from around the world, with competitors tested across combinations of running, swimming and laser pistol shooting.
Mr Ricki Smith, Principal of St Gabriel's School, said:
"We are immensely proud of Liam, Sophie and Declan and their achievements on the world stage. To represent Great Britain at this level is an accomplishment in itself, but to return with such an extraordinary collection of medals is a testament to their dedication, determination and hard work.
"Competing internationally requires considerable commitment, both in training and in balancing sporting ambitions with school life. All three are wonderful examples of what young people can achieve through perseverance, ambition and a genuine passion for their sport.
"On behalf of the whole St Gabriel's community, I would like to congratulate them on their outstanding success."
The pupils' achievements mark another proud moment for St Gabriel's School, which actively encourages pupils to pursue their individual interests and ambitions alongside their academic studies.
