Pre-School Children Dig Into Gardening Fun!

On Friday 13 June, our Pre-School children rolled up their sleeves for a hands-on gardening session in the Nursery gardens, led by special guest Brendan Marchant.
Brendan, a former St Gabriel’s Nursery parent whose daughter Jessica was in Pre-School last year, kindly returned to run another engaging morning of planting and outdoor learning.
The children were full of excitement as they got stuck in—hands in compost, smiles on faces, and plenty of curiosity! Brendan showed them how fruit and vegetables grow from the plants we care for, sparking conversations about nature, food and where it comes from.
Each child had a turn scooping compost into pots, pressing down the soil, making holes for planting, and gently placing in their young seedlings. They finished off with a go at watering their new plants, taking great pride in their contributions to the garden.
Amongst the variety of crops planted were tomato plants, French beans, runner beans, courgette plants, and even strawberries—all ready for a summer of growth in the Nursery garden beds.
We look forward to seeing the results of their green-fingered efforts in the weeks ahead, and there’s already much anticipation for sampling the home-grown produce!
A huge thank you to Brendan for generously giving his time and for sharing his expertise and passion for gardening with our youngest pupils. It was a memorable morning of learning, exploration and fun in the great outdoors.
