A Fun-Filled Farewell for Year 13

On Friday 9 May, our Year 13 students marked their final official day at St Gabriel’s with a joyful mix of fun, laughter, and celebration before heading off for study leave ahead of their A Level exams.

The day began with some early morning mischief as the Sixth Form farmhouse and parts of the Senior School were playfully transformed into a “crime scene.” Armed with loo roll, hazard tape, and witty ‘Wanted’ posters featuring members of staff, the students created a tongue-in-cheek tribute to their time at school. Even the historic Head Prefects board didn’t escape — cleverly rebranded as a “Suspects List” for the day!

Outside the main building, Year 13 took their stations with water pistols in hand, gleefully spraying passing cars during the morning drop-off. Their enthusiasm was infectious — especially when greeted with cheerful car horn beeps from supportive parents and staff.

Later in the morning, students gathered for a special Sixth Form assembly, where a video montage charted their journeys — for many, all the way from Nursery through to Year 13. Teachers and staff joined the celebration, with words of encouragement and heartfelt messages from the Principal and Head of Sixth Form, wishing every student success in their exams and beyond.

The celebrations continued on the Sixth Form lawn, where an inflatable disco dome and assault course provided energetic entertainment. Pupils enjoyed refreshments, laughter, and shared a relaxed BBQ lunch.

In the afternoon, the group headed to Swindon for an action-packed session at Laser Quest, before returning to school for one final showdown — the traditional Year 13 vs Staff Rounders Match on the front pitches. Afternoon tea followed, rounding off a day full of fun, nostalgia and school spirit.

It has been a true privilege to watch our Year 13 students grow into the confident, capable individuals they are today. Whether they joined us in the early years or arrived more recently for Sixth Form, they have each left a lasting impression on the St Gabriel’s community. We wish them all the very best in their exams and the exciting paths that lie ahead — and hope they’ll return to share their stories with us at future alumnae events.
