Y1 Capture the Castle

Year 1 visited Newbury as part of their study of the local area in their Geography lessons. The children proved excellent spotters of some of the local landmarks around the town including the library, Corn Exchange and St Nicolas' church! During their trip, they were lucky enough to stop by Carter Jones and learn further about the types of properties in Newbury. It proved fun to guess which were the oldest types and which were the newest. After a stop at a cafe for some much needed cake and juice, they headed off to Donnington Castle. After a race up the hill, the children were keen to explore the ruins and spot features of the castle from their History learning. These included identifying the portcullis, arrow slits and castle towers.

Donnington

With so many wonderful activities during the day, what was the children's favourite?

Isabelle: "I liked Donnington Castle because we got to see the portcullis, to make sure the bad guys didn't come in.", and Josie agreed "I liked going to Donnington Castle." However, for some children it was too tricky to choose: "Everything!" agreed Milly, Joshua and Siddhi, with Jackie concurring "The best thing was everything... and also the cake."

The Year 1 staff team were all very proud of how well Year 1 represented our school throughout our trip.
