Year 5 Enjoy Autumn Day at Ewhurst Park

On Tuesday 7 October, our Year 5 pupils spent an inspiring and action-packed day at Ewhurst Park, taking part in their special Autumn Day programme.

The children embraced the outdoors as they explored the park’s fields, woodlands and gardens, engaging in a wide range of hands-on activities. They rolled up their sleeves to help harvest seasonal crops, learned how to identify different tree species, and even had a go at propagating by planting seeds.

Animal encounters were another highlight, with pupils enjoying the chance to meet the resident pigs and discovering more about life on the land. They also took part in a fascinating session on forest fungi, learning how vital these organisms are to the ecosystem.

Creativity and problem-solving were put to the test in a natural boat-building challenge, where pupils designed and constructed miniature crafts using only materials found in the woodland. The real excitement came when they raced their boats on a makeshift flume, testing both buoyancy and speed!

The trip was a perfect blend of fun and education, sparking curiosity about the natural world and deepening pupils’ understanding of sustainability, food, and the environment. Year 5 returned to school tired but full of enthusiasm — and with plenty of stories to share about their day in the great outdoors.
