Track, Field and Biathle Glory for St Gabriel’s Pupils

St Gabriel’s pupils have enjoyed a spectacular run of sporting success across athletics and multi-discipline events this May, with impressive achievements at both county and national level.
The fortnight of excellence began on Monday 6 May, when Matilda S (Year 5) competed in the Hampshire County Quadrathlon Championships. Demonstrating fantastic all-round ability, Matilda secured a bronze medal in the U11 Girls’ event. She delivered a strong performance across all four disciplines, with a standout moment in the long jump, where she achieved a huge personal best of 3.70m.
The momentum continued the following weekend at the Hampshire County Track and Field Championships, held at Mountbatten Stadium, Portsmouth, on 10–11 May, where over 670 athletes took part in more than 150 events.
Our middle-distance runners shone brightly:
-
In the U15 Girls’ 1500m, Harriet S (Year 8) ran a fantastic race to earn silver with a new personal best time of 4:47.58.
-
Olivia B (Year 8) also secured silver, this time in the U15 Girls’ 800m, after a strong heat performance and an impressive final run of 2:27.29.
-
Elodie B (Year 6) competed in two events over the weekend. In the U13 Girls' 1500m, she finished 6th with a superb personal best of 5:39.35. She followed this with a dominant performance in the U13 Girls’ Mile, where she took 1st place.
Elodie continued her outstanding form the very next weekend, representing St Gabriel’s in the National IAPS Triathlon at Monkton Prep School on Sunday 19 May. Competing in the Year 6 race, the event involved a 200m swim, 4km bike and 1.8km run. Elodie raced with power and precision, showing excellent form in the pool, strength on a tough four-lap rolling bike course, and a perfectly paced hilly run to finish strong.
She crossed the line as the 4th girl and 7th overall (out of 44 girls and 55 boys). Remarkably, her time would have also placed her 4th in the boys' race and even 3rd in the girls’ Year 7 race, who competed over the same distances. Although she narrowly missed a second national podium this season (after her ISA success just three weeks earlier) by a mere three seconds, it was arguably her best all-round triathlon performance to date — a brilliant result and a testament to her four years of dedicated training since the age of eight.
Most recently, on Saturday 18 May, Liam N (Year 8) became British Schools Biathle Champion after competing in Dorset. Leading from the start, Liam created a clear gap during the run, maintained his lead through the swim and transitions, and surged ahead again to secure a dominant and well-earned national title.
These remarkable achievements reflect the dedication, focus and athletic talent of all our pupils.
Huge congratulations to Matilda, Harriet, Olivia, Elodie and Liam — you have made us incredibly proud, and we can’t wait to see what your next sporting chapters will bring.
