St Gabriel’s Pupils Celebrate Strong GCSE Success

St Gabriel’s is celebrating another excellent set of GCSE results this year, building on the success of last week’s A Level outcomes.
An impressive 41.4% of all GCSE grades awarded were at grades 9–7 (equivalent to A*–A), underlining the strength and consistency of academic achievement across the school.
Results were particularly notable in several subjects. Every pupil taking Computer Science, Dance, Greek and Mandarin achieved a top grade 8 or 9, while nearly two-thirds of those studying Latin secured grades 8 or 9. Success also extended across creative and scientific disciplines: 60% of pupils in both Food and Music achieved grades 8 or 9, and almost two-thirds of Triple Science candidates were awarded grades 7–9. In Mathematics, around one in five pupils attained a grade 8 or 9, and in Modern Foreign Languages more than half of entries were graded 7–9.
Alongside these strong collective outcomes, there were also some exceptional individual successes. Thais U. achieved ten grades at level 8 or 9, while Matilda G. secured nine subjects at this level. Elsa W. and Annabelle G.J. secured at least eight and seven of their subjects, respectively, at level 8 or 9. These remarkable results reflect not only the students’ personal commitment but also the supportive learning environment at St Gabriel’s.
Principal Ricki Smith praised the pupils’ achievements, saying:
“We are incredibly proud of our Year 11s, whose results reflect their resilience, ambition, and the balance of academic rigour and personal growth that defines a St Gabriel’s education. We look forward to welcoming many of them into our Sixth Form, where exciting opportunities lie ahead.”
Head of Upper School, Jennifer Shillaw, added:
“These results highlight the talent and determination of this year group. It has been wonderful to watch them grow, and I know they are ready to embrace the next stage with confidence.”
This morning, it was a joy to welcome Year 11 pupils back on site to collect their results in person. The school grounds were filled with celebration as proud parents and teachers shared in the achievements of the students. The special atmosphere was captured by National Press Photographer David Hartley, together with journalist Sarah Bosley and photographer Phil Cannings from the Newbury Weekly News.
With many Year 11 pupils preparing to continue their journey into the Sixth Form at St Gabriel’s this September, the school looks forward to seeing them take on fresh challenges and embrace the opportunities of the next stage in their education.
