St Gabriel’s Juniors Impress in Annual Guy Fawkes Competition

The Junior School was full of excitement and creativity last week as our much-loved Guy Fawkes Competition returned.
Pupils from across Key Stage 2 were invited to design and build their own Guy, working either individually or in small groups. The tradition has become a firm favourite in the St Gabriel’s calendar, encouraging teamwork, imagination and plenty of inventive thinking.
This year’s entries did not disappoint. When the completed creations arrived for judging, the hall was filled with several very unusual new faces. Among the standout designs was a cleverly themed Alan Carr “Traitor” Guy, inspired by the winner of the recent Celebrity Traitors television series. The humorous link between a traitor from history and a Traitor from TV was brilliantly executed, earning First Place for Hetty P and Darcy C (Year 6).
Second Place was awarded to Reuben, Kristoff, James and Alex (Year 6) for their witty “Guy Forks” – complete with forks for hands. A special mention also went to a light-hearted entry depicting a school pupil in trainers, clutching a red card after “forgetting” the correct uniform; a familiar and amusing moment that delighted pupils and staff alike.
Each creation reflected the children’s originality, craft skills and sense of humour. The standard was exceptionally high, making the judging both a pleasure and a challenge.
All of this year’s Guys took pride of place on the bonfire at the St Gabriel’s PTA Fireworks Night on Friday 7 November, where the wider school community came together to celebrate.
We are so proud of our Junior pupils for their creativity, effort and collaboration.
