St Gabriel’s Hosts a Fantastic Newbury Weekly News Primary School Quiz

On Wednesday 12 November, St Gabriel’s was delighted to host the annual Newbury Weekly News Primary School Quiz, after proudly winning the competition last year.

Our dining hall was buzzing with excitement as 12 teams from local primary schools battled it out across a brilliant mix of brain-teasing rounds.

Question topics ranged from history and geography to maths, sport, science, current affairs and famous landmarks — all expertly crafted by the Newbury Weekly News team. With pencils sharpened and thinking caps firmly on, every team brought fantastic enthusiasm and impressive knowledge.

Taking on the role of quizmaster was our very own Head of Juniors, Mr Dove, who kept spirits high and the pace lively as he guided everyone through the rounds.

After an afternoon of close competition, Stockcross C of E Primary took a well-deserved victory — in fact, they claimed both first and second place! St Gabriel’s finished a proud third, showing great teamwork and determination right to the end.

The event helped raise money for the Over 80’s Christmas Parcel Fund, adding an extra festive feel to the fun and ensuring the afternoon supported a wonderful community cause.

Congratulations to all the teams who took part, and thank you to the Newbury Weekly News for organising such a fantastic set of questions. We loved hosting this year’s quiz and look forward to next year’s challenge!
