Nursery Children Enjoy Another Morning of Musical Magic

On Tuesday 17 February, St Gabriel’s Nursery was filled with the joyful sounds of music as our children enjoyed yet another series of special musical visits from members of our school community.

Pre-School pupils were delighted to welcome back Mr Ben Copeman, one of our Nursery parents and a St Gabriel’s peripatetic music teacher, who led an engaging session all about the flute. Mr Copeman introduced the children to the instrument, demonstrating how different notes are created and even showcasing some more unusual techniques, including beat-boxing on the flute and piccolo! The children listened beautifully to a selection of classical pieces before joining in enthusiastically with familiar nursery rhymes such as Baa Baa Black Sheep.

The musical morning continued as children from the Baby Room, Toddlers and Pre-School visited the Junior School Music Room to enjoy another very special performance. Young musicians Charlie, Luca and Izzy – cousins of one of our Nursery pupils – kindly gave their time to play the piano and sing songs with our youngest learners. It was a lovely opportunity for the children to experience live music up close and to see older pupils performing with confidence and enjoyment.

Following the performances, the children were able to explore the instruments themselves, shaking maracas, beating drums, and strumming guitars and ukuleles. The room was soon filled with energy, curiosity and, of course, plenty of enthusiastic noise!

At St Gabriel’s Nursery, we are passionate about providing enriching experiences that inspire curiosity and creativity. Music plays a vital role in early development, offering children opportunities for self-expression, communication and exploration. These visits from our talented community members have been a wonderful way to introduce a wide range of instruments and musical styles to our young learners.

We are hugely grateful to all of our Nursery families who have supported these sessions so far. They have proved incredibly popular with the children and have created many memorable moments of joy, discovery and shared experience.
