Flipping Fantastic Pancake Preparations at St Gabriel’s

Although Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day) falls during the half term break this year on 17 February, St Gabriel’s pupils have already been getting into the spirit — thanks to some delicious masterclasses led by our Food Tech teacher, Mrs Edwards.

Year 4 and Year 5 enjoyed a fantastic afternoon in the Food Technology room learning how to make pancakes from scratch. From carefully mixing the ingredients to mastering the art of creating the perfect crispy crêpe on the hob, pupils embraced every step of the process. A brave few even attempted the all-important flip — with great success!

Once cooked, the difficult decision followed: classic lemon and sugar or chocolate spread with banana? Pupils had the option of taking their three freshly made pancakes home… although it’s safe to say that very few made it out of the classroom!

The celebrations weren’t limited to the Juniors. Mrs Edwards’ Year 9 Tutor Group also enjoyed a special pancake-themed form time before the end of term, putting their culinary skills to the test and enjoying what could only be described as a very welcome “second breakfast.”

It has been a wonderfully fun and tasty way to round off the half term — proving once again that learning at St Gabriel’s is as hands-on as it is enjoyable.
