Junior Instrumental Project

On Friday 13 February, pupils from Year 2 to Year 6 took to the stage to share the results of their hard work as part of the Junior Instrumental Project. Families and staff gathered to enjoy a lively and uplifting performance, celebrating the pupils’ musical progress and growing confidence.
Throughout the term, each year group has been learning a different instrument as part of their class music lessons. Year 2 pupils have been mastering the recorder, Year 4 the chalumeau, Year 5 the P-Bone, and Year 6 the ukulele. The project is designed to introduce pupils to a range of instruments while developing ensemble skills, listening, and a love of music.
During the concert, each year group performed a piece to demonstrate their newly acquired skills. Year 2 delighted the audience with a joyful rendition of I Just Can’t Wait to Be King from Disney’s The Lion King, while Year 6 brought the concert to a rousing close with their energetic performance of The Best Day of My Life by American Authors. Each performance reflected the pupils’ enthusiasm, commitment and growing musical ability.
The grand finale saw all pupils come together for a collaborative performance. In an “experimental” piece, the children performed a sea shanty they had each been practising in their individual classes, but had never before performed as a whole group. The result was a fun and memorable moment, showcasing both teamwork and creativity.
The Junior Instrumental Project provides pupils with valuable opportunities to perform in front of an audience, helping to build confidence and resilience, while also giving families the chance to share in their children’s achievements. It was a wonderful occasion, celebrating not only musical progress but also the joy of making music together.
