St Gabriel’s

A Spooktacular End to the Half Term

As the Autumn leaves fell and the air turned crisp, St Gabriel’s celebrated the season with a host of fun and educational Halloween- and Autumn-themed activities across the school.

Pupils from Reception to Sixth Form were involved in a variety of creative and hands-on experiences to mark the end of the half term.

Reception and Year 1 enjoyed a magical outdoor education session in the Reception Woods. Sitting around the campfire, they listened to Pumpkin Soup by Helen Cooper as a vat of pumpkin soup simmered on the flames. After the story, the children warmed up with a cup of delicious pumpkin soup and toasted pumpkin seeds—an autumn treat to remember.

Meanwhile, Year 6 Pathfinders were busy in their after-school club, working towards their Pumpkin Badge through a series of pumpkin-themed games and challenges.

Year 8 marked World Harry Potter Book Day with a special Performing Arts class filled with Hogwarts-inspired fun. From being sorted into Houses by the Sorting Hat to an impromptu game of Quidditch and creating their own magical props, the pupils immersed themselves in wizardry in preparation for their upcoming Drama trip to the Harry Potter Studios Tour.

Science Club for Years 7 and 8 got into the Halloween spirit with bubbling witches’ potions. Using classic reactions between bicarbonate of soda, vinegar, washing-up liquid, and water, the young scientists created colourful, roiling foam explosions that would have impressed even the witches of Macbeth.

Even Sixth Form joined the seasonal celebrations, volunteering with Science Club and taking part in pumpkin carving during a special outdoor enrichment session.

It was a spooktacularly fun end to the half term, filled with creativity, curiosity, and plenty of autumnal magic. We can’t wait to see what the next half term will bring!
