A Joyful Junior School Carol Service Marks the Start of the Festive Season

On Monday 8 December, the Junior School community came together for a magical candlelit Carol Service, filling the Sports Hall with parents, families and friends for a truly festive celebration.
The children had been rehearsing diligently, and their hard work shone through in a beautiful programme of music, readings and reflection.
The service opened with a moving performance of Shine, Advent Candle, Shine by Jean Anne Schafferman, sung by the entire Junior School, with stunning solos from Ben C and Mimi C. Christmas readings followed—including wonderfully creative pieces written by our Year 3 pupils—alongside poems, lively musical numbers from Years 3 & 4 and Years 5 & 6, performances from Nothing But Treble, our Junior Choir, and instrumental pieces by the Junior Orchestra.
A poignant reading of Christmas Gifts by Shaun Cronick was delivered by our Head Boy and Head Girl, and the whole congregation joined joyfully in well-loved carols including While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night and Away in a Manger. We were delighted to welcome the Reverend Joy Mawdesley from St Nicholas Church, who shared a blessing and prayer to close the service.
A retiring collection was taken for Rosie’s Rainbow Fund, a local charity supporting very sick and disabled children and their families in hospitals, schools and the wider community. For those who would still like to donate, contributions can be made here:

The Carol Service was a heart-warming celebration of the children’s musical creativity, a moment of reflection on the meaning of Christmas, and a peaceful way to begin the gentle wind-down towards the end of a busy term. It was a truly special occasion for the whole Junior School community.
