A Magical Evening at the St Gabriel’s Performing Arts Showcases

On Monday 9 March, pupils from across the Junior and Senior Schools came together for a wonderful evening celebrating creativity, confidence and collaboration at the St Gabriel’s Performing Arts Showcases.

Junior Performing Arts Showcase – Fairytales: Where the Magic Begins

The evening began with the Junior Showcase, which followed the enchanting theme of “Fairytales – where the magic begins.” Featuring pupils from Years 2 to 6, the performance invited the audience to step into a world where stories were brought to life through dance, drama and music.

The programme included a stunning Year 2 performance inspired by Arabian Nights, where pupils used glow-in-the-dark scarves to create a magical Aladdin-themed dance, enhanced by the impressive stage lighting. Year 3 then took the audience Into the Woods, before Year 4 delivered a creative dance interpretation of the classic tale Little Red Riding Hood.

Next, Year 5 transported the audience to a lively Circus in the Woods, complete with a playful nod to The Greatest Showman, before Year 6 brought the performance to a joyful close with a rousing Fairytale Ending. Additional performances from the Gym and Dance Club added to the sense of celebration and made the evening even more special.

It was wonderful to see pupils from across the Junior School working together to create such an expressive and imaginative production.

Senior Performing Arts Showcase – Within the Shadows

Following the Junior performance, the stage was transformed for the Senior Performing Arts Showcase, built around the powerful theme “Within the Shadows – Discover the Strength that Shapes Your Destiny.” The programme explored the idea that growth, creativity and resilience are often formed in the quieter moments away from the spotlight.

Each year group from Years 7 to 9 performed a collaborative piece, demonstrating impressive creativity and teamwork. Year 7 presented the energetic Mission Not Impossible, while Year 8 explored identity and loyalty in A Traitor or Faithful to Yourself. Year 9 delivered two powerful performances: Hiding from My Shadow and The World is Mine.

The evening also featured exceptional performances from our Dance Scholars, including a striking group piece titled Rule the World. A beautiful GCSE dance performance by Year 11 pupils Ellie A and Annabelle S captivated the audience, before a series of impressive solo performances from Dance Scholars showcased a wide range of styles, including street, tap, swing, ballet and contemporary. These performances demonstrated remarkable skill, expression and artistry.

Celebrating Talent Across the School

The Performing Arts Showcases were a truly stunning celebration of talent, reflecting the dedication, creativity and hard work of pupils across the school.

A huge thank you goes to Mrs Ruth Chaplin, Head of Drama and Interim Head of Dance, for coordinating such a memorable evening, as well as to the wider Performing Arts team for their support in bringing the productions to life.

It was a fantastic evening that highlighted the vibrant performing arts culture at St Gabriel’s and the incredible talent within our school community.
