St Gabriel’s Launches Flying Club with Soaring Success

This week marked an exciting milestone at St Gabriel’s as our new Flying Club took off for its very first session

Students began by exploring the fundamental principles of flight, learning how aircraft move through roll, pitch, and yaw. They were also introduced to three key cockpit instruments essential for piloting: the Airspeed Indicator (ASI), Vertical Speed Indicator (VSI), and the Altimeter.

After mastering the theory, it was time to take to the skies — virtually! Pupils climbed into our flight simulators and had the chance to pilot a virtual aircraft, applying their new knowledge in a dynamic and immersive setting.

The session was a fantastic introduction to aviation and aeronautical science, sparking curiosity and excitement. Even more thrilling, at half term, pupils will have the opportunity to take to the skies for real, experiencing their first piloting session in a real aircraft — a truly unforgettable experience in the making.

With more hands-on learning and sky-high opportunities to come, this promises to be a high-flying term for our budding aviators!
