Welcome Dr Tate

We are pleased to welcome Dr Elizabeth Tate to St Gabriel’s this term – she is joining the science department as a Chemistry Teacher following a break from teaching.

Liz studied Chemistry at King’s College London, gaining a PhD in 2007 for her work on ‘Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance’ – a technique which she used to analyse and detect drugs (pharmaceutical and narcotic) and explosives, allowing her to work on designing and building security equipment for security, defence and quality control.  As part of her post-doctoral work, she lectured undergraduate Physical Chemistry in the School of Biomedical Sciences, while also doing her research in the department of Mechanical Engineering and, finding that she loved teaching, left King’s College to complete an ‘INSPIRE’ PGCE at Imperial College.  Following this, Liz taught in schools in London and Reading for a number of years, before taking a break to do trials to help with Multiple Sclerosis research. On Monday 10 June her work with the MS Society took her to the House of Lords as part of an exhibition and campaign to help #StopMS.

Dr Tate returned to teaching last year and is thrilled to be starting a new, permanent role, at St Gabriel’s.
