Year 7 Adventure at Avon Tyrrell: Teamwork, Courage and Fun in the Great Outdoors
Our Year 7 pupils enjoyed an unforgettable weekend at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Centre in the New Forest from Friday 17 to Saturday 18 October.
The trip provided the perfect mix of challenge, teamwork and adventure — an incredible opportunity for pupils to strengthen new friendships and step outside their comfort zones.
Set in the beautiful surroundings of Avon Tyrrell’s historic estate, pupils took part in a wide variety of outdoor pursuits. From archery and high ropes to zip lines, tree climbing and bushcraft skills, every activity encouraged problem-solving, resilience and collaboration.
One of the highlights was the after-dark geocaching challenge, where teams were given coordinates to enter into Google Maps and had to work together to locate hidden numbers scattered around the site. In daylight, they swapped digital navigation for traditional orienteering, using paper maps to explore the grounds — a real test of teamwork and direction skills!
When not outdoors, the pupils relaxed and recharged in the Grade I listed main house, enjoying time together in the games room with lively rounds of pool and table football. Mealtimes were another highlight, with plenty of delicious food served in the on-site canteen.
The weekend was filled with laughter, encouragement and a healthy dose of friendly competition. Pupils showed brilliant team spirit — cheering one another on, facing fears on the high ropes, and even singing and dancing together between activities.
With time for football, frisbee, and plenty of fun, the trip perfectly captured the essence of what the Year 7 residential is all about — building confidence, developing friendships, and creating memories that last long after the bags are unpacked.
