Year 4 Pupils Celebrate Creativity at St Gabriel's Poetry to Performance Day

On Tuesday 7 July, St Gabriel's was delighted to welcome more than 50 Year 4 pupils from local primary schools for our annual Poetry to Performance Day – a celebration of creativity, collaboration and the inspiring beauty of the natural world.

Centred around the theme of Nature, the day invited pupils to explore our beautiful 33-acre campus, taking in the lake, woodland, parkland and abundant wildlife as they gathered ideas and inspiration for their own original poetry.

Working in their school groups, pupils shared ideas, experimented with language and imagery, and crafted their own nature-inspired poems before rehearsing their performances ready for the afternoon showcase. Throughout the day, they demonstrated impressive creativity, teamwork and confidence as their ideas came to life.

The event was led by the English Department and organised by Head of Drama and Director of Partnerships, Ruth Chaplin, who said:

"It was wonderful to welcome so many young people to St Gabriel's for another Poetry to Performance Day. The enthusiasm, imagination and confidence shown by every group was fantastic to see, and it was a pleasure to watch pupils develop their ideas and grow in confidence throughout the day. Bringing schools together through creativity is something we value enormously, and our beautiful grounds provided the perfect inspiration once again."

At the end of the day, parents joined us for refreshments before enjoying a performance showcase, where each group proudly presented their original poems to an audience of family members, teachers and fellow pupils. The performances reflected not only the pupils' creativity, but also the friendships and teamwork that had developed during the day.

As a special memento, every child received a sunflower growing kit to take home, encouraging them to continue celebrating creativity while nurturing a lasting connection with the natural world.

We would like to thank all the pupils, teachers and schools who joined us for such an enjoyable day. It was a pleasure to share this experience with you, and we look forward to welcoming even more young poets and performers in the years to come.
