Year 2 Enjoy a Magical Adventure at the Story Museum, Oxford

St Gabriel's Year 2 pupils had a fantastic day of stories, creativity, and adventure on their recent trip to the Story Museum in Oxford.
The day began with a traditional tale: The Three Billy Goats Gruff. Pupils discovered that the number three often appears in stories because it creates a pattern and builds excitement for the listener. They explored other well-known examples, including Goldilocks and the Three Bears, The Three Little Pigs, and the three wishes in Aladdin.
After listening to the story, the children split into small groups to create their own imaginative tales. Each group chose a toy animal and invented a story featuring the number three, complete with actions for everyone to perform. The results were wonderfully creative: one group told a story about snakes and a tiger, another crafted a humorous tale about rhinos and a chicken wearing sunglasses, and others featured a donkey with three farmers, and hedgehogs with a big white bunny. Acting out the stories added an extra layer of fun and brought each idea to life.
Next, pupils explored the Story Museum itself. They wandered through a magical enchanted forest, attempted to pull King Arthur’s sword from the stone, tumbled down Alice’s rabbit hole, discovered a room full of dragons, and stepped through wardrobe doors into Narnia.
The adventure continued with a guided walk around Oxford, inspired by Narnia. Pupils acted out parts of the story, enjoyed the scent of Turkish Delight, and threw pretend snowballs at the wicked Snow Queens during the climactic battle – all before cheering as Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy were crowned.
It was a magical and unforgettable day, with many children declaring it the “best trip ever”!
