St Gabriel’s Pupils Celebrate Medal wins at the ISA National Athletics Finals

On Monday 16 June, three talented athletes from St Gabriel’s travelled to Alexander Stadium in Birmingham to compete in the ISA National Athletics Finals—a prestigious event held at one of the country’s top athletics venues.

Matilda S (Year 5) got the day off to an incredible start, competing in the vortex throw. After a nervous first attempt, she launched the vortex over 30 metres, claiming gold and setting a new competition record—a phenomenal achievement.

Next on the track was Jonah L (Year 7), running the 1500m. He started strong and kept close to the lead runner throughout, finishing with a personal best time and securing a silver medal with an impressive performance.

After a break for lunch and a good stretch, Matilda returned to the track for her second event—the 600m. Despite rising temperatures and a long wait in the marshalling area, she ran a strong race, powering down the home straight to finish in third place, earning a bronze medal and another PB.

Elodie D (Year 6) also took on the 600m and showed great composure despite the late start and heat. She paced herself expertly in a fast field and finished in 9th place with a strong time—an excellent national-level result.

To qualify for the national finals is a huge accomplishment in itself, and for St Gabriel’s athletes to return with three medals—gold, silver and bronze—is truly exceptional.

A huge well done to Matilda, Jonah and Elodie for their dedication, resilience and fantastic performances. We are so proud of everything they have achieved!
