We were delighted to welcome staff from Falkland Primary School and Kintbury St Mary’s C.E. Primary School, alongside our own team, to our first in-house Paediatric First Aid training course at St Gabriel’s.
Led by our experienced School Nurse and certified First Aid Course Leader, Amy Tobin, the two-day course offered a comprehensive and engaging programme designed to equip school staff with the essential knowledge and confidence to respond to medical situations involving children.
The training covered a wide range of crucial topics, including:
-
Basic life support for babies, children and adults
-
Choking and CPR techniques
-
Managing wounds and injuries, including burns, bleeding, and fractures
-
Recognising and responding to common childhood conditions, such as diabetes, anaphylaxis, and asthma
As well as providing vital skills, the course focused on making the learning process both accessible and enjoyable. Feedback from attendees reflected the success of Amy’s dynamic and hands-on approach:
"Fab course Amy, first aid training is normally something I dread, but you made it so much fun!"
Participants each received an Ofsted-compliant paediatric first aid certificate on completion, fully valid for professional use.
This initiative reflects our commitment to community collaboration and accessible CPD, and we hope it will be the first of many opportunities for local schools to come together and benefit from shared expertise. A huge thank you to Amy for leading such an informative, empowering and memorable session.
