Reception and Year 1 Step Back in Time for a Medieval Banquet

As part of their Castles Topic and the exciting programme of interactive learning during WOW Week, Reception and Year 1 pupils were transported back to the Middle Ages today for a very special mediaeval banquet.
After morning break, much to the children’s delight, Knight Ryder (Mrs Ryder) arrived on her trusty steed to invite all the Lords, Ladies, Maidens and Noble folk to a grand feast in the Junior Art Room.
The banquet table was laden with creative delights, including a hand-carved dragon watermelon centrepiece, fiery dragon fireballs, and arrow fruit skewers. Pupils enjoyed drinking “mead” (apple juice) from clay goblets, while the sound of traditional mediaeval music — including Greensleeves — set the scene, and enjoyed the company of special Royal guests - Queen Bloxsom and Queen Lawrence!
As they tucked into their feast, pupils discussed what life in a castle might have been like and the types of food that might have been enjoyed during mediaeval times.
The event was a wonderful example of how hands-on, imaginative learning can bring topics to life, sparking curiosity and helping pupils make connections between history and their own experiences.
