Author visit - Paul Farrell

On Tuesday 5 March, our World Book Day celebrations got off to an early start with a visit from local author Paul Farrell.

Paul’s first book for children, ‘Dragon Slayers’, was published last year and pupils from Years 5 to 8 were invited to hear him talk about his book, his inspiration and work as a writer.

Paul explained how, as a schoolboy, he and his friends had improvised plays – one of which was performed in front of his whole class. The praise he received as a result set him on a path as a writer.  He encouraged our pupils to follow their dreams, to work hard and to believe that they can succeed which is such a positive message for all their endeavours both at school and beyond.

Paul also brought some stunning artwork that he had commissioned for his book and pupils had the chance to examine the paintings more closely. A reading from his book followed and then he spent a long time answering questions from an enthusiastic audience.

It certainly was an inspirational afternoon for our pupils and we were delighted to welcome Paul to St. Gabriel’s to get World Book Day off to a wonderful start.
