Year 10 Experience Life in Sixth Form at Taster Day

Year 10 pupils enjoyed an inspiring and immersive introduction to Sixth Form life on Friday 12 June, taking part in a full day of subject exploration, enrichment and future‑focused learning.

The day began with a relaxed Breakfast in the Marquee, giving pupils the chance to gather as a cohort before heading into a programme designed to mirror the independence and academic stretch of Sixth Form. Pupils then moved into specialist subject lessons, including A‑Level options that are new to them such as Psychology and Business Studies. Teachers introduced the demands and opportunities of post‑16 study, helping pupils understand how subjects deepen, broaden and evolve at A‑Level.

A key highlight of the morning was an introduction to the Sixth Form Business Diploma, delivered by Head of Sixth Form, Mrs Trevis, and Head of Business Studies, Mr Norris. During a lively and engaging presentation in the theatre, pupils explored how the Diploma develops leadership, enterprise and real‑world skills that complement academic study. Many pupils commented on how valuable it was to see the breadth of opportunity available beyond the classroom.

At lunchtime, pupils enjoyed a delicious barbeque on the lawns in front of the Sixth Form Farmhouse — a chance to relax, chat with staff and soak up the atmosphere of the Sixth Form environment.

The day concluded back in the Marquee, where pupils took part in a series of fun communication challenges designed to build confidence, teamwork and self‑reflection. They then shared their key takeaways from the day with Mrs Trevis, considering how the experience had shaped their understanding of Sixth Form expectations and the exciting possibilities ahead.

Reflecting on the day, Mrs Trevis said: “It was wonderful to see our Year 10 pupils embracing new subjects, new ideas and the independence that Sixth Form brings. Today gave them a real sense of what lies ahead — not just academically, but in terms of confidence, community and personal growth. They are already beginning to picture the next stage of their journey, and we look forward to supporting them every step of the way.”

The Year 10 Sixth Form Taster Day is an important milestone in helping pupils make informed choices about their future pathways. It was fantastic to see them engaging so positively with the opportunities on offer, ensuring they feel well-prepared for the transition beyond Senior School.
