Year 9 Explore Marine Conservation at Bristol Aquarium

On Tuesday 3 February, Year 9 Geography pupils enjoyed an educational visit to Bristol Aquarium, where they took part in a guided tour centred around the theme “Save Our Seas.”

During the visit, pupils learnt about the incredible ways in which marine animals are adapted to their environments, from tropical reefs to colder ocean habitats. Aquarium staff explained how each species relies on finely balanced ecosystems, and how changes caused by human activity and global warming are increasingly threatening marine habitats and fish populations around the world.

The session encouraged pupils to think critically about the impact of pollution, climate change and overfishing, linking closely to their Geography studies on ecosystems and sustainability. Pupils were particularly fascinated to discover how even small environmental changes can have far-reaching consequences for ocean life.

A highlight of the trip was the opportunity for pupils to help feed some of the fish, giving them a closer look at the animals and a memorable hands-on experience that brought their learning to life.

The visit provided valuable insight into marine conservation and reinforced the importance of protecting our oceans for future generations. It was an enjoyable and thought-provoking day, and one which inspired pupils to reflect on how individual actions can make a difference in caring for our planet.
