Pre-School Children Celebrate Diwali with Hands-On Cookery Session

On Tuesday 4 November, our Pre-School children were treated to a very special visit from Sonny’s grandmother, who led a fun and engaging cookery session with the little learners.
The children had the opportunity to make Puris—a type of deep-fried flatbread made from unleavened whole-wheat flour, traditionally served as breakfast or snacks across the Indian subcontinent. Puris are also enjoyed during special occasions and ceremonial functions, often as part of prasadam in Hindu rituals.
Excitement was high as the children donned their aprons and junior chef hats before rolling out the dough and shaping their own puris. They loved working together to create the delicious snacks, learning about both the cooking process and the cultural significance of the food.
This hands-on session was a wonderful way to extend the children’s recent Diwali celebrations, as well as improve their hand muscle strength (important for holding pencils) as well as their concentration and fine motor skills. The morning was full of learning, laughter, and, of course, tasty treats, helping the children to explore and understand different cultures in a fun and interactive way.
