Year 6 Shine in Spectacular Production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Year 6 brought the Junior School stage to life this week with a show-stopping performance of the much-loved musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, marking the end of their Junior School journey in true St Gabriel’s style.
After rehearsing tirelessly all term, pupils delivered a polished, energetic and heartfelt production, performing musical numbers with confidence and charm and delivering their lines with real poise and gusto. Their commitment and teamwork were evident throughout, creating a performance that delighted audiences of all ages.
One of the standout features of this year’s production was the phenomenal set design. Huge thanks go to our brilliant maintenance team and the Drama Department, who worked together to produce an array of imaginative props—including a magnificent Chitty car complete with working lights and horn.
The cast shone brightly, with Ben as Caractacus Potts, Lizzie as Truly Scrumptious, Alex as Baron Bomburst, Daisy as the Child Catcher, and James as Grandpa Potts, each delivering memorable and characterful performances. Alongside them, the wider cast brought humour, heart and vibrancy to every scene, showcasing the depth of talent within the year group.
Pupils performed twice: first to a full audience of parents and family members, and then to the Junior School, giving younger pupils a taste of the excitement that awaits them in future years. Both performances were met with enthusiastic applause and glowing praise.
The celebrations did not end with the final curtain. Following the evening performance, the cast received a fantastic surprise when members of the professional cast from the current Watermill Theatre production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang made a special visit to St Gabriel’s. The pupils were thrilled to meet the performers, who congratulated them on their outstanding production, praising their energy, talent and commitment. It was a truly memorable moment that made an already special evening even more magical and provided a fitting reward for all of the hard work the cast had put into the show.
This production was not only a theatrical triumph but also a special milestone for Year 6—a joyful, collaborative celebration of their time in the Junior School and a fantastic way to mark the end of their journey before they move up to Senior School.
A huge well done to all involved for creating a truly unforgettable show.
