Outstanding Success at the European Biathle, Triathle and Laser Run Championships

Congratulations to Year 9 student Liam and Year 7 student Declan, along with Sophie, who will be joining St Gabriel's in Year 7 this September, on their outstanding performances at the recent European Biathle, Triathle and Laser Run Championships in Madeira.
The championships got off to a fantastic start, with Liam winning Gold in the Under-15 Boys' Biathle and Declan claiming an excellent Silver in the Under-13 Boys' event. Both students also helped their respective Great Britain teams secure Team Gold medals.

On the second day, Declan continued his impressive form by winning a Bronze medal in the Biathle Mixed Relay.
Day three saw the Individual Triathle competitions take place. Despite a slight setback on the shooting range, Liam showed great determination to recover and secure a well-deserved Bronze medal. Declan matched this achievement with a Bronze medal of his own in the Under-13 event. Both boys once again contributed to another Team Gold for Great Britain.
Sophie also competed in the Individual Triathle and, despite a difficult opening shoot, demonstrated remarkable resilience. She fought her way back through the field with a particularly strong swim to finish in a very impressive 7th place.
The Triathle Relays took place on day four, where Liam showed incredible determination after recovering from a severe sickness bug. Digging deep despite not feeling fully fit, he helped his team to another Gold medal. Unfortunately, the illness affected his performance in the Individual Laser Run the following day, but he showed tremendous perseverance to finish a commendable 6th. Declan also narrowly missed out on the medals in the Laser Run, producing a strong performance to finish 11th in what is always a demanding event after such a gruelling week of competition.
The championships concluded on a high as both boys were determined to bounce back in the Laser Run relays. Declan competed in the Gender Relay and produced a dominant performance on his leg, handing over a comfortable lead that his team converted into another Gold medal. Liam competed in the Mixed Relay and, after receiving the lead, delivered a flawless first shoot and a fast opening run to extend his advantage. His outstanding performance ensured victory was never in doubt as his team also claimed Gold.
By the end of an exceptional week, Liam and Declan had amassed an incredible 8 Gold medals, 1 Silver medal and 3 Bronze medals between them—a truly remarkable achievement at the European Championships.
Everyone at St Gabriel's is incredibly proud of Liam, Declan and Sophie. We congratulate them on their dedication, resilience and sporting excellence and look forward to celebrating many more successes in the future.
