Over the weekend of 21–22 March, Year 4 pupil Sophie delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 WMAC English Championships, the official qualifying event for this year’s World Championships in Bregenz, Austria.
Competing against talented martial artists from across the country, Sophie demonstrated exceptional skill, focus and determination, returning with an impressive collection of medals.
A Haul of Gold and Silver
Sophie secured three gold medals in the following categories:
-
Point Fighting –30kg
-
Colour Belt Kata
-
–30kg Hands‑Only Point Fighting
She also achieved two silver medals in Kumite and Black Belt Kata, narrowly missing out on gold in both events by the smallest of margins. Her consistency across such a wide range of disciplines is a testament to her hard work and versatility.
Qualification for the World Championships
Thanks to her exceptional results, it comes as no surprise that Sophie has now qualified for the World Championships, taking place this September. This is a remarkable achievement for any athlete—let alone one competing at such a young age.
A Remarkable Achievement
We are incredibly proud of Sophie’s dedication, sportsmanship and competitive spirit. Her success at the WMAC English Championships is a wonderful reflection of her commitment and passion, and we look forward to following her journey as she prepares for the world stage later this year.
