St Gabriel’s Celebrates Four Winners at West Berkshire Schools Sports Awards

It was a proud evening for St Gabriel’s on Tuesday 6 October, as three pupils and a former member of our coaching team were recognised at the West Berkshire Schools Sports Awards, held at Arlington Arts.
Celebrating sporting achievement, dedication and contributions to school sport across the region, the awards recognised four members of the St Gabriel’s community for their exceptional accomplishments, both on and off the field.
Year 12 student Francesca D received the award for Voluntary Services to Primary School Sport, recognising her outstanding commitment to supporting younger pupils. Over the past two years, Francesca has generously given her time to coaching children from Years 2 to 6 across a variety of sports, sharing her enthusiasm, encouraging participation and helping younger pupils develop their skills and confidence. Her award is a wonderful acknowledgement of the positive difference she has made through her dedication and leadership.
There was further cause for celebration as two St Gabriel’s pupils were recognised as Senior Athletes of the Year.
Liam N (Year 10) received his award in recognition of his impressive achievements in biathle and laser run. Having represented Team GB at international championships, Liam has demonstrated exceptional commitment to his sport, with his hard work and determination bringing success on the international stage.
Milly D (Year 9) was also named a Senior Athlete of the Year, celebrating her achievements in climbing. As a member of the England Climbing Development Squad, Milly continues to develop her talents and compete at a high level, demonstrating tremendous dedication to her training and sporting ambitions.
Completing the evening's celebrations was Charles Thompson, a familiar face to many at St Gabriel’s, who was named Primary Sports Coach of the Year.
Charles spent a year working alongside our Sports Department as a voluntary apprentice coach while exploring a career in teaching. During his time at the School, he made a wonderful contribution to the sporting experiences of our pupils, sharing his knowledge, enthusiasm and encouragement. Now undertaking his PGCE as he works towards becoming a qualified teacher, it is fantastic to see his commitment to inspiring young people recognised.
Together, these four awards reflect the many different ways in which sport enriches school life at St Gabriel’s. From competing at national and international levels to giving time, sharing skills and inspiring younger children, each recipient has demonstrated the determination, generosity and enthusiasm that we value so highly.
We are incredibly proud of Francesca, Liam, Milly and Charles. Congratulations to all four on their thoroughly deserved recognition!
