Reception and Year 1 Celebrate Burn’s Night in the Woods

On Thursday 29 January, our Reception and Year 1 pupils enjoyed a slightly belated Burn’s Night celebration, full of fun, learning, and Scottish tradition.

The children gathered around the campfire in the Reception woods, where Mrs Bloxsom ceremonially brought in the bubbling vegetarian haggis to the sound of bagpipes. Mrs Ryder then recited the famous Ode to the Haggis by Rabbie Burns before slicing it open and sharing a taste with every child. Pupils learnt about the history and traditions of Burn’s Night as they enjoyed their warming snack.

The festivities continued with a reading of Hamish the Haggis and an energetic Haggis hunt in the woods. To finish, the children had a go at some Scottish Sword Dancing, celebrating the occasion with music, movement, and lots of laughter.

It was a wonderful afternoon of culture, curiosity, and outdoor fun, bringing the traditions of Scotland to life for our youngest learners.
