Year 4 Bring Tudor England to Life With Stunning Model Houses

Year 4 pupils at St Gabriel’s have once again impressed us with their remarkable model Tudor houses, created as part of their History learning on the Tudor period.

This year’s project was set over the Easter break, giving pupils time to plan, design and build their own interpretations of Tudor architecture at home. The results were outstanding. From striking black‑and‑white timber frames to thatched roofs, miniature interiors and carefully crafted gardens, every model reflected creativity, effort and a growing understanding of Tudor life.

To celebrate their hard work, pupils gathered outside in the sunshine for a special “show and tell” session. Each child talked through the materials they chose, the techniques they used, and the historical features they wanted to include. Classmates were invited to share their favourite details from one another’s designs, creating a lovely atmosphere of appreciation and peer encouragement.

As part of their wider Tudor studies, pupils have been exploring daily life in Tudor England — from monarchs such as Henry VIII to Tudor fashion, food, law and order, and the symbolism of architecture. They have learnt how features like exposed wooden beams, tall chimneys, steep gable roofs and decorative half‑timbering were signs of wealth and status, many of which still influence British homes today.

This hands‑on project has helped Year 4 step back in time, deepening their understanding of the Tudor era in a memorable and engaging way.

A huge well done to all our budding historians, designers and architects — your imagination and hard work have brought Tudor England to life once again.
