Exploring the museum’s atmospheric streets and shopfronts, the children discovered how play has changed over time and compared toys from the past with those they enjoy today. A particular highlight was the opportunity to handle a selection of antique toys, encouraging thoughtful discussion and careful observation as pupils considered how materials, design and purpose have evolved over the years.

The immersive setting sparked plenty of curiosity, from traditional street games to discovering how children entertained themselves in previous generations. The visit offered a rich, hands-on way to deepen understanding and make meaningful connections with classroom learning.

The Year 1 team were extremely proud of the children’s enthusiasm, curiosity and excellent behaviour throughout the day, making it a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable first trip of the year.
