Physical Education

In Sandleford, physical education lessons are used to develop the children’s physical literacy and movement. The emphasis is on the fundamentals of movement, agility, balance and coordination. We spend a lot of time on fair play, taking turns and support for our friends in a variety of situations. In the process we have a great deal of fun as we transfer our movement into bear hunts, pirate ships and jungle journeys. All pupils in the Pre-School Room have three physical education lessons and one dance lesson a week.

During the Summer Term, children in the Pre-School Room have one swimming lesson a week in our outdoor heated swimming pool.  The emphasis is on building confidence together with low levels of stroke technique. During their session, children are split by ability so that the weaker swimmers are taught in a small group where they can progress in a safe secure way. The teaching of the more able concentrates on improving their swimming strokes.

Visitors to St Gabriel's quickly recognise that this is no ordinary school. Parents are always impressed by the sense of purpose and enthusiasm of the talented, committed staff and the confidence of the extremely happy pupils. We offer girls the opportunity for a seamless journey from Nursery through to Sixth Form, with our boys leaving us at the age of 11 for their senior schools.
