We promote enjoyment, knowledge and understanding of music through listening and performing. Music-making gives pupils an understanding of pitch, duration, timbre, texture, structure, tempo and dynamics, whilst exposing them to a wide variety of musical styles.

Pupils develop:

  • an accurate sense of pitch and an understanding of the timbre of an instrument
  • secure rhythmic skills
  • creative thinking through their music-making

All children learn a musical instrument within lessons.  In addition, pupils may have individual instrumental lessons with specialist visiting teachers.  Indeed, many pupils reach high standards of performance on their chosen instrument as demonstrated by their success in examinations up to grade 8 and beyond.

Choirs, orchestras and ensembles abound and, as a nationally accredited 'Singing School', there really is something for everyone to enjoy.

Visitors to St Gabriel's quickly recognise that this is no ordinary school. Parents are always impressed by the sense of purpose and enthusiasm of the talented, committed staff and the confidence of the extremely happy pupils. We offer girls the opportunity for a seamless journey from Nursery through to Sixth Form, with our boys leaving us at the age of 11 for their senior schools.
