Hands-on experience and practical applications give pupils an understanding of the world around them and foster a natural curiosity for products, processes and design. They develop problem solving skills through practical experience and create solutions, building confidence and an appetite for challenge!
Pupils undertake a number of practical 'design and make' challenges, encouraging them to think independently, work safely, create products of high quality and demonstrate individual creative flair. From Year 3 specialist staff teach pupils how to approach a design problem by analysing, researching, designing for a specific need and evaluating the process throughout. Pupils gain knowledge of a wide range of material and ingredient properties and manufacturing techniques and processes, including computer aided design and applications. Throughout the year pupils have the opportunity to produce practical outcomes using a variety of materials and ingredients to produce food-based products and 3D workshop produced outcomes.
