Students engage with dance in a way which can be extended into higher education and promotes a healthy lifestyle through an awareness of the importance of exercise and training. The study of A level Dance provides the opportunity to focus on performance, choreography, technique, health and safety and to engage in critical analysis. Examples of set works of study are Christopher Bruce's 'Rooster' and Gene Kelly in 'Singin' in the Rain'.
The biennial dance show, which takes place at Arlington Arts Theatre, provides a platform for A level pupils to showcase their work. This exciting and vibrant event is a celebration of this empowering and powerful art form.
There is a wide range of extra-curricular events designed to inspire and challenge all pupils. Girls participate in the senior school dance company ‘Angelis’ and take part in an enriching programme of weekly contemporary dance classes and performance opportunities. Visiting professional dance companies provide new and challenging dance material for pupils to learn and these are often linked to the many and varied visits to the theatre to see live dance performances.
Dance is taught in a specialist dance studio with a fully sprung floor, professional dance flooring and large mirrors.
