Year 2 visit St Nicolas Church

On a very damp Tuesday in November Year 2 went to visit St Nicolas Church in Newbury.

Last week, as part of an RE topic on The Christian Church Year 2 went to visit St Nicolas Church in Newbury.  We were met by Rev. Sarah Alexander who welcomed us to the church and introduced her helpers, Debbie and Sue.

We had an opportunity to explore the church and examine the beautiful stained glass windows.  We also looked at the memorials and grave stones commemorating peoples lives.  Rev. Sarah showed us a slide show about the history of the church and the different activities that took place there.

The highlight of the trip was being able to climb the 126 steps up to the top of the clock tower.  We stopped off half way up to look at the bells and then continued to climb until we reached the top.  We went outside, despite the rain, and managed to spot many different sights of Newbury, including the ducks on the canal!  On arriving back down a member of Year 2 was heard to say that it was so far up that her legs now felt all creaky!

Visitors to St Gabriel's quickly recognise that this is no ordinary school. Parents are always impressed by the sense of purpose and enthusiasm of the talented, committed staff and the confidence of the extremely happy pupils. We offer girls the opportunity for a seamless journey from Nursery through to Sixth Form, with our boys leaving us at the at the age of 11 for their senior schools.
