Children from five local Junior schools recently came together at St Gabriel's to enjoy a fun day of linguistic challenges organised jointly by the modern foreign languages departments at St Gabriel's and Park House. Working in cross-school groups, the children were presented with a selection of brain-teaser activities designed to encourage them to look for patterns and similarities in a variety of languages including Italian, Spanish, German, Catalan, Basque and Bambara. One of the many highlights of the day was the "Jungle Book Eurovision," where the children were split into three groups and given one hour to learn a verse from a song featuring in the Disney film of the same name, and then asked to perform it! "Colonel Hathi's March", sung in Italian won the day, over "The Bare Necessities" in Spanish and "I Wanna Be Like You" in German, although it was a tough call! The teachers would like to say a huge thank you to all the children involved for being so enthusiastic and working together so well.
